A Wee Bit of Thrifting

August 26th, 2008 9:07 am by Naomi in Day to Day at Glitter | 1 Comment »

On Saturday I snuck out for a little bit of thrifting. I am finally running low on my book supply and thought it would be a great opportunity to catch a few minutes to myself before we had to run out to Jerome’s company picnic.

Little did I know that the store I was going to was having a huge sale and there were about a zillion people (roughly) there already. I had to park about four blocks away which would really restrict how many books I could get!

I did find a good selection and a little owl bell that I could not pass up.

I did find more books than that, but those were my faves. The alphabet collection may work it’s way into Henri’s room though. It is in perfect condition and absolutely adorable.

The bell is up in the shop.

When I got home, poor Jerome was holding Henri wrapped up in one of my dresses. Evidently the little man started screaming about the second I walked out the door and Jerome had the good sense to find something that smelled like mama for little man to cuddle around. Jerome said it worked pretty good and he calmed down quickly. Now we need to figure out a magic solution to get him to sleep better by himself at night.

Actually, last night Jerome took him to change his diaper (finally fits in his gdiapers!!), and then he laid him in his crib for awhile. Henri actually ended up sleeping for about two hours in there! I had woke up and saw that they weren’t in the bedroom but figured they were in the living room and that Jerome was on the couch with Henri in his gliding chair (his fave), but after they came back in for feeding time and Jerome said Henri had slept in the crib, I had to ask where he had been sleeping….. the answer? He had slept on the rug next to the crib because he hadn’t wanted to leave Henri completely alone for his first time in the crib at night… now that is a good papa.

Time to throw in the third load of laundry for the day (wait… isn’t it only 9 a.m.??) and get to the grocery store. Everything takes on a whole new level of planning with a newborn. Not like it is always a cake walk taking the girls places, but at least you can bribe them with a treat if they are good!! They are back home tomorrow and then the final countdown to school starts…

I am quite lucky…

I have received so many great gifts and words of encouragement from everyone since Henri has been born. Thank you to everyone!!! Sometimes all you need is a little ‘I’m thinking of you’ email or phone call to make your day even brighter.

Yesterday I received another super sweet gift in the mail from the lovely Jennifer from Epoch Vintage (amazing shop downtown… right next to Anthology).

It’s a beautiful handmade outfit from the 1940’s and a wonderful bar of soap for mama. Thank you Jennifer!!! I want to find a lovely vintage children’s hanger so I can display the outfit in Henri’s room. The soap came at a perfect time too because we are revamping our bathroom and have been without a shower for almost a week. I had almost forgotten how to take a bath!

Besides trying to squeeze in some work between Henri time (which is all the time… I can’t stop holding and kissing him!!!… I know, I’m ’spoiling him’… whatever!), the girls and I have been busy registering for school and they have been doing tons of playing with friends, sleepovers, and swimming. We need to try to savor every last minute of this crazy summer. There have been days lately when I have definatley lost focus of what these moments are all about. It is soo easy to get wrapped up in ‘there isn’t enough time for… or I am too tired… or *insert* whine whine whine whine… Exhaustion can creep up and make me not a very nice person sometimes!

The girls registered for fourth and fifth grade. Yikes!!! Next year Darby will be in middle school! One nice thing is that it is across the street from our house, but when did that happen??? She is going to be in safety patrol and strings this year too so we get to experience the violin. I played piano for years and years and desperately have wished we could get one so the girls (probably just Darbs… Zoe is holding out for drums…. triple yikes) could experience music. The violin is a nice start though. Hopefully one day we can still get a small piano.

I, of course, have a few more Henri pics to show. The first one is Mr. Bright Eyes hanging out this morning with me and the second, though a bit out of focus, was just too cute. My two favorite men, ape man and monkey baby getting in some cuddle time!!

We have Jerome’s company picnic tomorrow and the rest of the weekend will be spent on making more coasters and working on the bathroom. Well, and of course kiddo time!! Hopefully the weather will hold out and there will be much more swimming, biking, playing, and holding tiny baby time. Henri is bigger already! Someday I will be registering him for school…

Have a great weekend!!

Budding Chefs

So the weekend ended up good, all in all.

These three ladies made a wonderful dinner for me on Saturday! We had a great picnic at the park and their friend Laura (shown in the pic) joined us with her mom, and then her family made dinner for us on Sunday! I tell you, if you ever want to do something wonderful for a mom after having a baby, cook her dinner!!

Here they are at the park…

Henri was pretty excited about the picnic too..

Hehe… he is getting better at getting washed up though. I haven’t given him a whole body bath in the baby tub yet because he has really dry skin, but he doesn’t scream quite so much getting washed off now!

Today the girls helped me go to Whole Foods and get groceries and lunch (and diapers… his gdiaper cloth system is still too big!!). They are really good helpers most of the time and I am soo lucky to have all of them in my life….

Sounds like little man and Daddy need my help now…

I will not be crabby…..

Today Jerome was supposed to be home to help me out with Henri, the girls, the bathroom we are trying to refinish before my mom comes, the overgrown yard….. the list goes on.

Instead, he is at work right now, then headed to Waukegan, IL to deliver some circuit boards to a customer. I totally know this is not how he wanted to spend his day either, but I am upset. Like, sitting on the couch bawling last night upset. Yep, hormones are great!!!

I am also dealing with some behavior issues with one of my kids whose name will not be mentioned. Let’s just say she has been the baby for nine years and I knew that there would be a few issues, but this is a bit more than a few. She adores the baby, but is talking back to me and just not being great. Hopefully the more we just consistently deal with the bad, and reinforce the good, it will pass.

I have a few great things to be happy about. Well, definately more than a few, but I am really happy with this frame.

It makes me remember that fall is on it’s way. I adore fall. I love the weather, the dwindling bugs, kids going back to school…. no, I didn’t mean that. Wait, who am I kidding… of course I did!!

I am also thrilled for this.

He is such a good baby all in all. He was a bit crabby yesterday and didn’t sleep much during the day, but slept great at night and actually had to be woke up for a few of his feedings! yeah!!!

Time to make the Annie’s Mac and Cheese (girls fave) and slice up some fruit for lunch. The last thing I need is for them to think I don’t feed them anymore!!

Wish me luck…

Small Bounties

I finally have a few new crafts! I have been working on more storybook goodies this week including these.

Some of the barrettes are up in the shop. I have a ton more frames done too, but I think most of those will be heading to Anthology

.

We also have a teeny tiny bounty of tomatoes from the garden. The plants are huge and there are about a million green tomatoes, but nothing is ripening!! Any suggestions??

Here are today’s picks, in all their scrawniness… of course I actually despise tomatoes, so it’s no big loss to me, but I do like making sauces from scratch and using them in recipes.

Speaking of small things, did you really think I would post without including more baby pics???

Henri is definately staying awake longer at a time now. It’s nice to see his little eyes! He’s doing pretty good at night, getting up about every two hours to nurse and be changed. We are having some definate poop and pee issues. No, it’s not that he’s not going or anything like that, but he certainly does prefer to do both of those in the brief seconds that his diaper is off. He actually drenched my shirt the other night when I was changing him. Doesn’t he know I’ve only had girls?? I don’t know anything about pee shooting up in the air!! Poor guy, I’ll stop discussing his bad habits..

I also decided on some birth announcements to order. I had grand illusions of hand making all the announcements, but those quickly dwindled with each email I receive from wholesale and consignment shops telling me my inventory is low. Thank goodness! I explained to Henri that mom works at home, and he needs to let me WORK during nap time and not just hang out on my boob waiting for the next time he feels like eating. Sorry, I know this post is full of too much info..

Here’s the announcements… what do you think??

One extra note, a HUGE CONGRATS to Ms. Janet on the birth of her son! We were due, I believe on the exact same date (this upcoming Saturday) but both of our men couldn’t wait to enter this marvelous world….
